MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 24, 2019 – Grace Medical, a leader in ear nose and throat surgical devices with a focus on otology, today announced it has acquired EndoEar Endoscopic Instruments, which feature simultaneous suction and dissection, along with varied geometries, to access and remove hard-to-reach disease in the middle ear. This acquisition solidifies Grace Medical’s position as the global leader in ENT technology and innovation.
“We’ve seen a significant trend in ear surgery, specifically the move from microscopic to endoscopic,” said Mike Crook, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Grace Medical. “Our company was built around developing groundbreaking solutions to improve patient outcomes and helping surgeons better treat diseases of the ear. With the acquisition of EndoEar, we’re able to further provide tools to support the latest surgical techniques.”
The growing trend toward endoscopic ear surgery stemmed from benefits such as better visualization of the middle ear and, ultimately, improved patient healing and shorter recover times. What started as a small distribution partnership turned into the complete acquisition of EndoEar. Its full endoscopic instrument line offers a range of innovative functions, such as integrated suction and dissection, 360-degree rotation, an array of curved suctions, double-ended dissectors and high-definition endoscopes.
“The traditional surgical approach provided a limited line of sight. With the endoscope, there’s more visibility and varied geometries to access and remove hard-to-reach pockets of cholesteatoma, one of the most common reasons for surgery,” said Robert Yawn, M.D., Assistant Professor and Division Director of Otology, Neurotology, and Lateral Skull Base Surgery at University of Tennessee Health Science Center. “As an ENT surgeon, it is vital to be on the cusp of the most innovative tools and procedures. Grace Medical and its EndoEar line allow me to do just that.”
With the addition of EndoEar, Grace Medical will nearly double its instrument sales this year. The company remains focused on identifying innovation and is considering other acquisitions and industry partnerships in the near future.
